Clearing up confusion about “Care Labels”
In connection with its Fabric Care Labeling Rule, the Federal Trade Commission requires a permanently affixed care label on both textile wearing apparel and household furnishings. These labels must indicate if an item is to be dry cleaned or washed and, if it is to be washed, whether to use hot or cold water. You must also indicate whether bleach may or may not be used and specify at what heat the item may be ironed. You can design your own labels or order standard care labels from manufacturers such as Charm Woven Labels and Widby Enterprises.
NOTE: If you simply decorate a commercial T-shirt or other garment and resell it, any labels required by law will already be in place.
